Puppy Potty Schedule at Night

Updated September 2026

Nighttime accidents are common in early puppyhood, but a few habits make a big difference.

Before Bed

Cut off water access about 2 hours before bedtime and take a final, uneventful potty trip right before lights out.

Crate Sizing

A crate that's just big enough to stand, turn around, and lie down in discourages soiling — too much space and a puppy may use one corner as a bathroom.

When Your Puppy Wakes You

Whining or pacing at night usually means a real need to go. Keep the trip boring: no play, dim lights, straight back to the crate after.

When Pups Sleep Through

Most puppies can sleep a full night without a break somewhere between 4 and 6 months old.
