Puppy Potty Schedule While Working

A young puppy cannot safely hold it for a full 8-hour workday, so a plan is essential before you start a normal work schedule.

Options

• Midday visitor: a neighbor, family member, or paid dog walker lets your puppy out around the halfway point of your shift.
• Puppy playpen setup: a pen with bedding on one side and a potty pad or turf patch on the other, for puppies under 12–14 weeks.
• Doggy daycare: a few days a week can bridge the gap until your puppy's bladder control catches up.

Before and After Work

Give a full potty break right before you leave and immediately when you return — don't greet enthusiastically first, go straight outside.

When It Gets Easier

Most puppies can handle a full workday of separation by 5–6 months, once bladder control matures.
